Utah leaders urge unity following Charlie Kirk's assassination: 'Turning Point for America' https://ift.tt/LPg6GmV

In the days following Charlie Kirk's assassination , Utahns have united at memorials and candlelit vigils to honor the 31-year-old conservative influencer's life and legacy.  "It's really important we support each other," Republican Utah state Senate President Stuart Adams told Fox News Digital. "I'm very proud of our community for coming together to try to support one another as we work our way through this." As local leaders urge the community to lean on their friends, family and neighbors, many have echoed Utah Republican Gov. Spencer Cox's call to action against political violence.  "History will dictate if this is a turning point for our country, but every single one of us gets to choose right now if this is a turning point for us," Cox said during a press conference on Friday after announcing the suspect, Tyler Robinson, had been arrested.  UTAH STUDENTS LIFT VOICES IN PRAYER AT VIGIL FOR CHARLIE KIRK’S CHRISTIAN LEGACY: ...

Secret Service under pressure: What Kirk’s assassination means for Trump’s security https://ift.tt/93HSMsm

The Secret Service has its hands full combating an unprecedented level of political threats, an issue underscored in the wake of the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk .  While the Secret Service is initiating a series of changes to bolster its security practices following two assassination attempts on President Donald Trump last year, the agency is now operating at an extremely heightened state amid an unprecedented level of threats, according to experts.  "The Secret Service now has to play at a level of enhanced security that they've never dreamed of before. I think [Secret Service Director Sean Curran] is doing a good job in leading that effort," Tim Miller, who served as a Secret Service agent during Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton’s administrations, told Fox News Digital on Thursday. "But here's the bad news for the Secret Service: They don't have time. This threat is now. Can you imagine – they already shot our presiden...

Chicago cops struggle to staff streets as Trump presses on crime https://ift.tt/TrpASCl

Illinois Democrats are drawing a red line against President Donald Trump's law-and-order push, rejecting his proposals to deploy the National Guard to Chicago despite the Windy City's police department facing a staffing shortage that has persisted since the pandemic-era anti-cop rhetoric of 2020.  "We're waiting for a call from Chicago. We'll fix Chicago. And again, D.C. is right now so safe you can go out," Trump said on Monday morning during faith-focused remarks at the Museum of the Bible, referring to his federalization of Washington, D.C.'s police force that has been viewed as a success at cleaning up crime.  Chicago and Illinois leaders, however, have repeatedly bucked the idea of calling on Trump for additional assistance.  "No federal troops in the city of Chicago, no militarized force in the city of Chicago," left-wing Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said on Labor Day during a protest against Trump's floated intention to send in t...

Reporter's Notebook: Congress targets college sports 'Wild West' as NIL compensation fight heats up https://ift.tt/4IohL8n

Some epic drama in the first two weeks of the college football season. The defending national champion Ohio State Buckeyes shut down the then-No. 1-ranked Texas Longhorns at the goal line three times. Ohio State quickly curbed talk about the greatness of Texas quarterback Arch Manning. The Buckeyes are now the No. 1 team in the country. Especially after they shellacked Grambling State 70-0 in Week 2. Florida State whipped Alabama. And we haven’t even talked about Bill Belichick’s coaching debut at North Carolina. So settle in for quite a season between now and mid-January. But there could be new rules off the playing field. Congress may attempt to referee what collegiate athletes can earn from their own name, likeness and image, better known as NILs. LEGENDARY SPORTS AGENT BREAKS DOWN TRUMP'S 'SAVING COLLEGE SPORTS' EXECUTIVE ORDER "Without clear rules and an enforcement mechanism, the NIL landscape has become akin to the Wild West," said Rep. Russell Fry, ...

"I have warned Hamas about the consequences of not accepting," he continued. "This is my last warning, there will not be another one! Thank you for your attention to this matter."
