The Hitchhiker's Guide to Gaetz's status in the House and the Ethics Committee report https://ift.tt/4jUeHSB

Former Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., resigned from the House last week. That is final. The precedent of the House is that once you bow out, it is done. So, Gaetz cannot revoke his letter of resignation last week. It declared he was stepping aside "effective immediately." As reported earlier, Gaetz could serve in the new Congress. He was duly re-elected to his seat for the new Congress to be seated on Jan. 3. In his letter to the clerk of the House, Gaetz declared, "I do not intend to take the oath of office for the same office in the 119th Congress to pursue the position of Attorney General in the Trump Administration." GAETZ WITHDRAWS AS ATTORNEY GENERAL However, Fox is told that Gaetz would have to inform the clerk of the House that he, in fact, does intend to serve in the new Congress – if he elects to do so. Gaetz has not signaled his future plans. That part of the Gaetz letter is not binding.  Technically, the House Ethics Committee must wrap up its inquiry in...

Senate Democrats confirmed Biden's 220th federal court appointment on Wednesday and are hoping to add to that number before the Thanksgiving holiday. President-elect Trump accused Democrats of attempting to "stack the Courts" with radical appointees and urged Republicans to "Show Up and Hold the Line."  "No more Judges confirmed before Inauguration Day!" Proposed Chicago police resource cuts could land city in court, top officials warn https://ift.tt/rPYeTS4

Illinois’ Democratic attorney general and a court-appointed monitor are among those warning Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson that his administration’s proposed cuts to police resources may land the crime-wracked city in litigation. During a status hearing last week, monitor Maggie Hickey told Judge Rebecca Pallmeyer that cuts to the Chicago Police Department's (CPD’s) Constitutional Policing division could "could be a devastating blow to the future of CPD reforms" under a legally-mandated consent decree , according to the Chicago Sun-Times. State Attorney General Kwame Raoul separately warned Johnson that adopting cuts proposed in his new budget would place Chicago "at significant risk of being held in contempt of court for failing to comply with the consent decree." In 2017, then-Mayor Rahm Emanuel, then-Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson and then-Illinois Democratic Attorney General Lisa Madigan entered into the consent decree after the Justice Department re...

Fears over President-elect Trump’s plan to declare a state of emergency at the border and make use of the military as part of a mass deportation plan have been overblown, according to one expert. "The country is not going to be militarized," Alfonso Aguilar, a former chief of the U.S. Office of Citizenship and the director of Hispanic engagement at the American Principles Project, told Fox News Digital. Youngest House Republican-elect reveals how GOP won back America's youth https://ift.tt/funTqd3

EXCLUSIVE: The GOP appears to be attracting more of America's youth than in previous elections, with the 2024 cycle seeing a double-digit shift by young voters toward the top of the Republican ticket. One of the Republicans leading that new wave is Rep.-elect Brandon Gill, of Texas, who at age 30 will be the youngest member of the House GOP conference and among the youngest in the 119th Congress overall. "I think that's a few things. One is that younger voters are looking, more than anything, for sincerity. They're looking for people who understand what they're going through," Gill told Fox News Digital. "And the reality is, the younger voters, they don't like things like censorship. They don't like government authorities telling them what they can and can't say. Younger voters don't like entering the workforce and finding out that it's really difficult to buy a home in Joe Biden's economy, that it's really difficult to ge...
