Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sued on Friday in a federal court to stop the Biden administration from implementing a policy that would allow for migrants to be paroled into the U.S. without court dates -- hours after the Title 42 public health order had been dropped, and the policy had already been dealt a blow in the courts. Paxton, who has filed over a dozen lawsuits challenging Biden administration border and immigration policies, filed a request for a temporary restraining order on a policy outlined in a May 10 memo .  The policy would see migrants released via humanitarian parole "with conditions" if Customs and Border Protection (CBP) faces overcrowding. Kansas' governor and top state lawmakers were to meet Thursday to consider a proposed legal settlement between the state and the owner of a Wichita fitness studio forced to shut down during the first months of the coronavirus pandemic and then operate under restrictions. Approval of the settlement by Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly , six Republican leaders of the GOP-controlled Legislature and its two top Democrats would end a state court lawsuit filed in December 2020 by Ryan Floyd and his business, Omega Bootcamps Inc. The lawsuit has yet to go to trial in Sedgwick County District Court in Wichita, and a judge is considering the state's request in 2021 to dismiss it. The memo says that migrants can allowed into the country on parole — a process typically reserved for "urgent humanitarian reasons or significant public benefit" — if CBP faces overcrowding. A federal jury in New York City reached a decision Tuesday in the civil trial of advice columnist E. Jean Carroll vs. former President Donald Trump.  The jury decided that Trump was not guilty of rape, but was guilty of sexual abuse and defamation. The former president has been ordered to pay $2 million.  The six men and three women on the jury began deliberating Tuesday morning on the ninth day of the civil trial, which took place in Manhattan federal court.  Carroll, 79, alleged that Trump raped her  at the Bergdorf Goodman department store across the street from Trump Tower in Manhattan some time in 1996. According to Carroll, the two had a chance run-in at the store, where Trump was shopping for a gift for "a girl."
