Nearly five dozen conservative Republican lawmakers are demanding that border security be part of any deal struck to raise the debt ceiling, calling the House GOP’s recently passed bill on the issue a "starting point" for such talks. The note, led by Republican Study Committee Chair Kevin Hern, R-Okla., also accused President Biden and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., of a "dereliction of duty" when it comes to the border. The 57 GOP lawmakers argued "the security of our border is inextricably linked to the fiscal security of our nation." "As we speak, the United States is experiencing a rapidly worsening border crisis and barreling toward a debt limit crisis," read the Republican Study Committee letter sent to President Biden and congressional leaders on Thursday. "Let’s be very clear, these crises are a direct product of the failed policies and neglect of President Biden and Congressional Democrats. We believe each of thes...

"Therefore, Congress has a responsibility to sufficiently fund essential programs that empower law enforcement agencies to address the diverse set of criminal threats facing the communities we represent." One of President Biden’s judicial nominees is expected to withdraw his nomination because he was unable to earn the votes to advance out of the Democrat-led Senate Judiciary Committee. A committee source confirmed to Fox News Digital that Biden’s nomination of Michael Delaney to the First Circuit Court of Appeals is likely to be pulled because not enough Democrats supported him. Bloomberg Law and other media outlets were also reporting that Delaney appeared to be scrapped. Delaney was originally scheduled to be considered for a vote at a committee business meeting Thursday but was removed from the agenda. Sen. Marsha Blackburn , R-Tenn., remarked in the meeting that "making sure that people are fit for the bench and fit for public office is something that we should do. The announcement came just days before the House Foreign Affairs Committee was set to vote on whether to hold Secretary of State Antony Blinken in contempt for refusing to allow lawmakers to read it. Migrant numbers at southern border exceeded 200,000 in April, prior to Title 42’s expiration https://ift.tt/6SqgBAh

There were over 211,000 migrant encounters by authorities at the southern border in April , ahead of the ending of the Title 42 public health order, according to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) statistics obtained by Fox News Digital – an increase from March’s numbers but below the same period last year.  There were 211,401 migrant encounters by CBP in April, down 11% from the 235,785 seen in April 2022 and up 10% from the 191,956 seen in March 2023. Over two-thirds, 67%, of those encountered were single adults, while 74,027 were expelled under the Title 42 public health order -- which allowed for the rapid expulsion of migrants due to the COVID-19 pandemic and ended last week.  The end of that order on May 11 brought with it concerns that there would have a fresh surge of migrants on top of the already enormous numbers authorities have been seeing. That appeared to be happening when in the days preceding the end of the order say over 10,000 encounters a day -- but enco...

Biden admin ‘encouraged’ by lower post-Title 42 migrant numbers, but urges caution for weeks ahead https://ift.tt/6SqgBAh

The Biden administration says it is "encouraged" by lower migrant numbers in the wake of the end of the Title 42 public health order, which it says is showing that its border measures are working -- although officials are urging caution about drawing conclusions. Department of Homeland Security official Blas Nunez-Neto told reporters that the daily average of illegal border encounters since the order expired on Thursday is just over 4,400 a day, including fewer than 4,000 in the last two days. That represents a decrease of 56% in the four days preceding the end of the public health order -- which allowed for the rapid expulsion of migrants at the southern border due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Border Patrol had encountered over 10,000 migrants a day in the days leading up to the order’s termination. He linked the drop in apprehensions to the Biden administration’s multi-part plan to deal with the surge, which includes a new asylum rule that makes many migrants ineligible fo...

FBI ignored 'clear warning sign' of Clinton-led effort to 'manipulate' bureau for 'political purposes' https://ift.tt/ltPGb1Q

The FBI "failed to act" on a "clear warning sign" that the bureau was the "target" of a Hillary Clinton-led effort to "manipulate or influence the law enforcement process for political purposes" ahead of the 2016 presidential election, Special Counsel John Durham found. Durham was referring to intelligence on a plan stirred up by Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign in July 2016 to tie then-candidate Donald Trump to Russia in an effort to distract from the investigation into her use of a private email server and mishandling of classified information. Democrats have an opportunity to make Republicans sweat with Santos expulsion effort https://ift.tt/ltPGb1Q

A key part of politics is making the other side sweat . For House Democrats , one way to make House Republicans sweat involves moving to expel Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y., who was indicted on a host of charges. Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Calif., offered a privileged resolution on the floor Tuesday afternoon to expel Santos from Congress. Santos pleaded not guilty last week to charges that he lied to Congress about his personal wealth, pocketed unemployment checks he did not qualify for, stole cash from his campaign and hornswoggled donors. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., and other key Democrats have repeatedly punted the question of Santos’ fitness for office to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif. The question prior to Tuesday was why Democrats — if they really think Santos is so ill-suited to serve — had not tried to oust Santos from Congress.
