Alabama IVF ruling reignites debate on abortion, a motivating issue for Democrats ahead of election https://ift.tt/6El7at2

Some Republicans joined Democrats in expressing alarm over a ruling this week by the Alabama Supreme Court that jeopardized future access to in vitro fertilization , giving allies of President Joe Biden new fuel for their efforts to center abortion access in the presidential election. "We’ve got to talk about making sure we don’t take away women’s rights to IVF, women who are childbearing age and want to give birth to children," said GOP Rep. Nancy Mace, who was campaigning this week for former President Donald Trump in South Carolina. She added, "I’ll be working very hard to make sure that doesn’t happen." Democrats and left-leaning interest groups have banked on abortion rights as a major motivator for voters in the upcoming presidential election and fight for control of Congress. They believe abortion can be a winning issue as the debate widens to include increasing concerns over miscarriage care, access to medication, access to emergency care and now IVF treat...

Russia has officially added Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., to a list of "terrorists and extremists" after the GOP firebrand condemned the Russian government for the death of opposition leader Alexei Navalny this week. Russia's state financial watchdog, which handles the "terrorist and extremist" list, announced Graham's addition on Tuesday. Graham blamed Russian President Vladimir Putin for Navalny's death this weekend, and he also called for the U.S. to add Russia to its list of state sponsors of terrorism. "Navalny was one of the bravest people I ever met. When he went back to Russia he had to know he was going to be killed by Putin, and he was murdered by Putin," Graham said in a Sunday interview with CBS. "President Biden told Putin, if something happens to Navalny, you’re going to pay a price. President Biden, I agree with you, the price they should pay is to make Russia a state sponsor of terrorism," he added. STATE DEPARTME...

President Biden’s great-great-grandfather was pardoned by Abraham Lincoln, documents show https://ift.tt/oUPhIfD

President Biden's great-great-grandfather received a pardon from President Lincoln , according to newly discovered documents in the National Archives. Biden's relative in the incident, Moses J. Robinette, got into a fight with another Union Army civilian employee while camped along the Rappahannock River near Beverly Ford, Virginia, as the Civil War raged on March 12, 1864, according to documents reviewed by The Washington Post. The fight left the other man, John J. Alexander, bleeding from knife wounds, and Robinette was charged with attempted murder and was incarcerated near Florida. Three of Robinette's friends were officers in the U.S. Army, and they petitioned Lincoln directly to overturn the sentence. WHY BIDEN’S ANGER AND DEFENSIVENESS INFLAMED ANXIETY ABOUT HIS MEMORY ISSUE They argued Robinette's sentence was overly harsh for "defending himself and cutting with a Penknife a Teamster much his superior in strength and size, all under the impulse of the...

Haley: Congress is ‘lying to the American people’ by tying foreign aid to border security https://ift.tt/homqGeE

GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley alleged Sunday that Congress is "lying to the American people" by tying foreign aid to border security.  "Congress is failing because they’re making this sound like you have to choose between Ukraine and Israel, or securing the border. They are lying to the American people. That’s a false premise. We can do both," Haley said during an appearance on ABC's This Week. "Securing our southern border is priority number one, but making sure that we help Ukraine and Israel is also about preventing war. If we just supported Ukraine and Israel, that’s only 5% of our defense budget. If we supported Ukraine, Israel and secured the border, that’s less than 20% of Biden’s green subsidies. So this is not about the American people having to choose either/or. This is about Joe Biden and Congress understanding that they need to choose national security. They need to choose preventing war, and their job is to keep Americans safe, and t...

Hochul apologizes after saying Israel 'has right to defend itself' with 'inappropriate' Canada analogy https://ift.tt/9Z1wpMe

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul apologized for recent remarks in which she said Israel "has a right to defend itself," while making what she later called an "inappropriate analogy" about Canada invading Buffalo, New York. "Call out Hamas for what it is, and it is a terrorist organization that must be stopped. No one, no country should live with that threat, that specter over them," Hochul said Thursday during a speech at the United Jewish Appeal-Federation of New York, according to video shared on X.  "And for those that don’t understand this dynamic here in our own state, in our own country, I’ll give you an example," she said. "I’m from Buffalo, anybody realize that? If Canada someday ever attacked Buffalo, I'm sorry my friends, there would be no Canada the next day. Right? I love Canada, but we did have the War of 1812, and they did burn Buffalo… so there might be a little conflict here. But think about that. That is a natural reaction...
