Venezuelan migrants attack, injure Texas National Guard member: officials https://ift.tt/BWQYNtv

Two Venezuelan migrants attacked and injured a Texas National Guard member in El Paso, Texas, causing him to fall into razor wire, Texas authorities announced this week. Texas Department of Public Safety said that the incident took place on Wednesday morning. The soldier said that while he was standing near the wire, a female migrant grabbed him by the neck. Then, a male migrant grabbed his leg, causing him to tumble into the wire, which authorities had set up to prevent illegal migrant crossings. OFFICIALS APPREHEND TWO LEBANESE NATIONALS AT SOUTHERN BORDER, AMID TERROR CONCERNS He was later assisted by troopers and soldiers who came to his aid. The migrants were identified as a 38-year-old Venezuelan woman and a 33-year-old Venezuelan man. Both were charged with assault, but the woman was charged at large — meaning she was freed — because she was traveling with children. The man, meanwhile received a $3,500 bond. Former Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field officer di...

Hamas terror attack fuels conservative concerns about border security amid migrant crisis https://ift.tt/i7K9tUn

The brutal terror attack that Hamas launched against Israel last week is intensifying Republican concerns about what they see as an unsecured border and a historic migrant crisis that has left Border Patrol agents overwhelmed. "We are vulnerable when we have all these military-age men coming in. Do you think that our enemies have not been looking at that weakness?" Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said on CNN this week. DeSantis pointed to border encounters of migrants from Iran, Russia, China and the Middle East: "That is not good for the security of this country." TOM HOMAN SOUNDS ALARM ON BIDEN'S BORDER LEAVING US VULNERABLE TO TERRORISTS: ‘I’VE NEVER BEEN MORE CONCERNED'  Fox News reported this week that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has encountered thousands of "special interest aliens" since 2021. New York City mayor says 'we are not all right' after Hamas massacred Israelis https://ift.tt/nQ3uFoZ

New York City Mayor Eric Adams delivered heartfelt remarks showing strong support for the city's Jewish community and Israel after the deadly terror attacks on October 7, the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah.  Speaking at a "New York Stands with Israel" rally on Tuesday, Adams said, "We are not all right" after the world witnessed the atrocities committed by Hamas in southern Israel, where terrorists committed murder, rape, torture and kidnappings and boastfully posted their crimes on social media.  "We are not all right when we see young girls pulled from their home and dragged through the streets," Adams said to a crowd of thousands who had gathered to express solidarity with Israel.  "We are not all right when we see grandmothers being pulled away from their homes, and children shot in front of their families. We are not all right when right here in the City of New York you have those who celebrate at the same time when the devastation is t...

North Dakota lawmakers scramble to fix budget bill https://ift.tt/LYjsETZ

North Dakota lawmakers are scrambling to fill a giant hole in state government operations left by a surprising state Supreme Court ruling that voided a major budget bill, leaving uncertainty until a resolution is reached. Lawmakers might be back at the state Capitol as soon as the week of Oct. 23 for a three- to five-day session, Republican Senate Majority Leader David Hogue told The Associated Press. The court's surprising Sept. 28 decision put funding for parts of the state government in jeopardy, with a session likely to pull Republican Gov. Doug Burgum, who is running for president, off the campaign trail to focus on the legislation. NORTH DAKOTA'S HIGH COURT OVERTURNS KEY BUDGET BILL The court on Thursday issued a subsequent opinion denying the Republican-controlled Legislature's requested delay of the court's decision. The court also rescinded a previous stay that a majority of the justices had apparently granted until Oct. 28 — a move the state's attorn...

UN still does not label, sanction Hamas as terror group despite murderous attacks https://ift.tt/B7mujdz

As Israel reels from the deadliest terror attack in years by Hamas, the United Nations Security Council still does not recognize or sanction Hamas as a terror group -- despite multiple other nations declaring it to be so. "The U.N. Security Council votes to impose sanctions and designations on groups like al Qaeda, the Taliban or ISIS. But no such sanctions or designations exist for Iran’s axis of terror groups, including Hamas and Hezbollah," Richard Goldberg, senior advisor at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, told Fox News Digital.  The Council, under resolutions passed in 1999, 2011 and 2015, sanctions ISIS and al Qaeda, along with associated individuals and groups. The Council’s committee on those resolutions oversees sanctions measured imposed by the council. ISRAEL AMBASSADOR SLAMS UN COUNCIL'S STATEMENT CRITICIZING ISRAEL: ‘HOW MANY MURDERED JEWS DOES IT TAKE’  However, there are no such sanctions in place for Hamas and Hezbollah. WATCH: White House shuts down question on authenticity of photos showing dead Israeli children https://ift.tt/MY26Bdz

The White House on Thursday shut down a reporter's question concerning the authenticity of photos released earlier in the day showing dead Israeli children butchered by Hamas. The exchange came during the White House press briefing when National Security Counsel spokesperson John Kirby was asked if the U.S. had independently verified the photos posted on X earlier in the day by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu showing the bloodied body of one baby and the burned corpses of two other children. "I don't think we're going to be in the business of having to validate of approve those images. They're coming from the prime minister of Israel, and we have absolutely no reason to doubt their authenticity," Kirby said, appearing disturbed at the suggestion the photos could be fake. House Republican bill backed by over 100 lawmakers would refreeze $6 billion in Iranian funds https://ift.tt/aOu3CNZ

FIRST ON FOX : House Republicans , led by Rep. August Pfluger, R-Texas, are introducing legislation that would stop the release of $6 billion in frozen funds to Iran in the wake of the Iran-backed Hamas terror attacks on Israel. The legislation would essentially re-freeze the $6 billion in Iranian funds that were released as a part of a prisoner swap. The deal created a blanket waiver to transfer the funds from South Korea to Qatar without fear of violating U.S. sanctions. Administration officials say the funds can only be used for "humanitarian needs like food and medicine." "A month ago on the anniversary of 9/11, the Biden administration unfroze $6 billion and made it available to Iran — the world’s largest state sponsor of terror — while Iran was helping Hamas plan the horrific terror attacks on Israel," Pfluger said in a statement. "This $6 billion will be used to backfill the money that Iran is paying to Hamas if we don’t act." The unfreezing of t...

Iran has not accessed $6 billion released in prisoner swap, White House says https://ift.tt/M4GInXK

The Iranian government has not accessed any of the $6 billion in funds released under its prisoner exchange deal with the U.S., the White House said Thursday. White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby made the assertion to reporters during a Thursday press briefing, but he stopped short of saying that there was a formal pause on the funds. Reporters repeatedly pressed Kirby to clarify whether the U.S. has revoked Iran's access to the funds, or merely that Iran had yet to access them. He later responded that he is not willing to talk about any changes to policy regarding the funds that may have taken place "within the past 24 hours." The $6 billion in funds, which belongs to Iran, had been unfrozen from South Korean banks as part of a prisoner exchange deal in August. Under the deal, Qatari banks were to hold the funds and only grant Iran access for humanitarian purposes. LIVE UPDATES: ISRAEL AT WAR WITH HAMAS Critics argued that the funds would fre...

SPLC silent on whether BLM, Dem Socialists' pro-Hamas activism raises 'hate' concerns https://ift.tt/ysA0Xdg

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), a  left-wing organization  that tracks and labels so-called "hate groups" across the country, is remaining silent on whether Black Lives Matter (BLM) and the Democratic Socialists of America's (DSA) actions following Hamas's deadly attack on Israelis raise 'hate' concerns.  BLM Grassroots called the Iran-backed terrorist group's attacks "desperate acts of self-defense." The DSA promoted a New York City pro-Hamas rally and said the incursion was a "direct result of Israel's apartheid regime."  Demonstrators at the rally burned and stomped on an Israeli flag and taunted supporters of Israel with an image of a swastika. Others displayed signs that read, "Palestinian return by any means necessary," "Israeli apartheid & genocide funded by the U.S." and "End all U.S. aid to Israel!" Dozens of student groups at universities such as Harvard also defended Hamas and ...

Pete Buttigieg chased from event by climate protesters chanting 'Stop Petro Pete' https://ift.tt/zRwh1b6

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg was chased from an event in Baltimore on Tuesday evening after left-wing climate activists stormed the stage and demanded he stop fossil fuel infrastructure projects. Buttigieg was forced to depart the event — a Maryland policy forum at the city's Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall hosted by local outlet Baltimore Banner — after more than a dozen activists with the group Climate Defiance stormed the stage yelling slogans. The protesters called on Buttigieg to reject two proposed oil transport projects, the Sea Port Oil Terminal and Texas GulfLink, under review by his agency's Maritime Administration. "Petro Pete is a coward. As we write he is ramming down our throats the Sea Port and GulfLink oil terminals – each worse than Keystone," Climate Defiance tweeted following the event. "We must resist him with all we've got. And we will." "Your DOT just approved the Seaport Oil Terminal, a project that will have 80...

GOP rep calls on Biden to help evacuate Americans stranded in Israel after Hamas attack: 'Immediate priority' https://ift.tt/LmKg2GU

FIRST ON FOX: A Republican congressman sent an urgent letter to the White House on Monday night calling on the administration to secure the evacuation of American citizens stranded in Israel amid a Hamas terror attack that killed over 1,000 Israelis.  "I urge you to use all appropriate U.S. resources and tools to arrange for the immediate evacuation of American citizens in Israel who are desperately trying to return home," Rep. Chris Smith, who represents New Jersey's 4th Congressional District, wrote in a letter to President Biden.  "The dangers these U.S. citizens face are so grave, and the responsibility of the U.S. Government for their safety so paramount, that their evacuation must be the uppermost immediate priority of the U.S. Government in Israel and the Middle East . You must act rapidly and decisively providing the full support that American citizens need for their immediate safe evacuation to the United States." Smith told the Biden White House t...

Lawsuit against OSU in sexual abuse scandal could result in deposition for Speaker candidate Jordan https://ift.tt/QDunaGJ

One thing to watch for as House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) pursues the Speakership: There is still an outstanding lawsuit filed against Ohio State University by a number of former varsity athletes – including wrestlers – stemming from a sexual abuse scandal which goes back decades. They are listed as "John Does." Ohio State previously argued that the statute of limitations had run out. But a federal court disagreed. The Supreme Court refused to reconsider the case earlier this year. That allowed the case to proceed. TRUMP ENDORSES JIM JORDAN FOR SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE: 'COMPLETE & TOTAL ENDORSEMENT' Jordan is not named in the suit as a defendant and has never been accused of alleged sexual abuse. But the plaintiffs intend to call all possible relevant Ohio State employees from the timeframe of the alleged abuse. That could help them determine potential culpability for allowing the abuse to continue after being made aware of it.  The qu...

Trump claims 'atrocities we are witnessing in Israel' would have never happened if he was still president https://ift.tt/nkeKlAE

WOLFEBORO, N.H. — Former President Donald Trump on Monday took aim at his successor in the White House, blaming President Biden for this weekend's deadly attack by Hamas on Israel. Trump, in a speech in the crucial early voting state of New Hampshire, claimed that "the atrocities we are witnessing in Israel would never have happened if I was president." And the former president, who is running for the White House a third straight time, charged in a campaign trail appearance that "Joe Biden betrayed Israel."  Trump and many of his rivals for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination have been blasting Biden and his administration since Hamas militants, supported by Iran, on Saturday launched the deadliest attack on Israel in decades. Hamas’ surprise early morning assault on Israel during a major Jewish holiday resulted in over 800 Israelis dead and over a hundred, including the elderly, women and children, abducted and taken back to Palestinian-controlled ...

Biden admin may have lost track of millions of migrants crossing southern border: congressional report https://ift.tt/q7ClmdS

The Biden administration is potentially failing to track millions of migrants who have illegally crossed the southern border as monthly encounters continue to skyrocket, according to an interim report assembled by GOP House Judiciary Committee staff. According to the sprawling 61-page report — shared with Fox News Digital and which cites new information obtained by the Judiciary Committee — the number of illegal immigrant encounters at the U.S.-Mexico border exceeded 2.2 million in the first 11 months of fiscal year 2023. Additionally, the data further shows the federal government has "no confirmed departure" for more than 2.4 million migrants encountered since January 2021. "Because of the unprecedented border crisis, some Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers have been forced to abandon arrests and removals of aliens, including criminal aliens, to process the illegal aliens who have arrived at the southwest border," the report states. "Meanwhile, t...

User’s manual to the effort by some GOPers to return McCarthy to the Speakership https://ift.tt/ZS8iYJW

Could the former House Speaker be the future House Speaker? Watch to see an effort this week by some allies of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) to draft him for the Speakership again.  Fox is told it’s likely a challenge for either House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) or Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) to secure the votes to become Speaker.  At least quickly.  HOW THE MIDDLE EAST CRISIS COULD EXPEDITE THE ELECTION OF A HOUSE SPEAKER Both Scalise and Jordan come with baggage and that will divide the House Republican Conference. It is unclear how long it could take either candidate – or any candidate – to earn the necessary votes on the floor to win.  "Pack your lunch," said one Republican to Fox about how long the Speaker’s race may take. The earliest a floor vote could happen is Thursday.  That’s why some McCarthy loyalists believe that the former Speaker should run again.  It’s notable that McCarthy m...

How the Middle East crisis could expedite the election of a House Speaker https://ift.tt/1R4pawo

There is increasing concern in national security circles about the status of the House of Representatives , bereft of a Speaker, during an international crisis.  It has been made clear to Fox that events in the Middle East are not an attack on the U.S., but "on an ally." However, one source noted that these circumstances can devolve quickly. It was underscored to Fox that if nothing else, the Middle East violence highlights the importance of having an operational House of Representatives and a Speaker. "The Middle East might speed up the election of a Speaker," said one House Republican who asked to remain nameless. "This points to why it was a bad idea to kick out (former House Speaker) Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.)." The late British Prime Minister Harold MacMillan famously declared that "events" were the most important factor in governance.
